Ex-Drogs, Hoops star makes Newry move
November 27, 2009
Former Drogheda United and Shamrock Rovers utility man Danny O’Connor is on the verge of a move to Irish League side Newry City.
O’Connor can complete the deal before the transfer window opens on January 1st as he has been a free agent since before the closure of the last window in the summer.
The 29-year-old – younger brother of Sheffield Wednesday midfielder James – can play at right back, central defence or in midfield.
A native of Wicklow, he has also played for Bray Wanderers and Longford Town during an eight-year League of Ireland career.
Newry manager Johnny McDonnell told the Belfast Telegraph: “We’re hoping to have Danny in for the weekend and if not then he’ll definitely be in next weekend.
“He was out of contract when the transfer window closed, so he can come in and play straight away rather than having to wait until January, which is a bonus for us. He can play in a few different positions as well which will also be good for us.”
