Cork ace makes Clarets move
November 26, 2009
Teenage defensive star Kevin Long has agreed a transfer from Cork City to Barclays Premier League side Burnley in a “six-figure deal”.
Long burst into the Cork starting line-up this year and was called up to the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad on two occasions over the past few months.
The 19-year-old – who was also linked with Leeds United and Charlton Athletic – will complete his move to Turf Moor when the transfer window opens on January 1st.
Clarets manager Owen Coyle was delighted with the acquisition – and in a comment which is sure to raise the hackles of Cork City supporters campaigning for the reign of Tom Coughlan to come to an end, expressed his gratitude to the Cork City owner for his role in negotiations.
Said Coyle: “We are delighted to have signed Kevin and beaten off stiff competition from north and south of the border for his services.
“He has got everything you want in that type of player and I would like to thank Cork’s chairman Tom Coughlan for his courtesy and professionalism during negotiations.”
