Peterborough chief rubbishes Fenlon speculation
November 20, 2009
Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has dismissed suggestions that Bohemians manager Pat Fenlon was offered the London Road job.
Fenlon has won five League of Ireland titles in the past seven years, including a second successive crown as Bohemians boss earlier this month.
He was one of six managers interviewed for the position by MacAnthony after the dismissal of Darren Ferguson last week.
Mark Cooper, the former Tamworth Town and Kettering Town manager, was eventually appointed and MacAnthony has denied claims that his fellow Dubliner Fenlon was his first choice.
He told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: “It’s typical nonsense from every person associated with the job. He was interviewed and, as I did with all the candidates, we spoke terms so I wouldn’t have to revisit the subject if they were the one I wanted.
“Fenlon and others phoned Barry Fry after their interviews to get in front of me again so they could land the job.
“But the only person from the six I interviewed who was offered the job was Mark Cooper.”
