Derry clear-out complete as interim chairman steps down
November 13, 2009
The clear-out of the board of Derry City Football Club is complete following Thursday’s decision of interim chairman Stephen McCarron to step down.
McCarron, formerly vice-chairman of the Brandywell club, was the only member of the five-strong executive to remain in situ following Tuesday night’s departure of Pat McDaid, Joe W Doherty, Peter Leonard and Francis Houston.
He subsequently released a statement as interim chairman, in which he expressed his gratitude to Mr McDaid and reiterated his commitment to the club.
However, McCarron has now followed his four former board colleagues out the Brandywell exit door.
Quoted in the Derry Journal, he said: “The plans that were laid out for me [on Wednesday] night about the future of the club, they made perfect sense. I don’t think I would be able to get things moving as quickly as these guys can.
“Things will be speeded up at a much greater rate, which means as far as I’m concerned senior football will be back in Derry next season.”
