The Galway side finished top of their section in the Newstalk ‘A’ Championship this year.

They lost the title decider to Shamrock Rovers but as the highest-placed eligible side, they advanced to a promotion/relegation decider against the bottom team in the First Division.

However, that team, Kildare County, went into liquidation at the weekend and Salthill Devon will now proceed to the League of Ireland proper in the New Year, as long as they meet the licensing requirements.

The Drom outfit’s promotion takes the number of Galway sides in the League of Ireland to three, joining Premier Division Galway United and Mervue United, who achieved promotion from the ‘A’ Championship in 2008.
